The first Rodgers & Hammerstein collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. The original Broadway production ran for 2,212 performances. It was revived in 1979, and again in 2002, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival and Best Choreography.
